Abstract
554,784. Swivel joints, LUNDQUIST, C. E. E. June 30, 1942, Nos. 8990 and 8991. Convention dates, June 21, 1941, and June 1, 1942. [Class 65 (ii)] A swivel joint for frame structures, such as chairs, comprises hubs 5, 7 attached to parts 2, 4 of the chair &c. and a hub 6 attached to another relatively rotatable part 1, the hubs being mounted on a pivot pin 8 and adapted to be moved axially by a cam lever &c. so that teeth 5a, 7a, on 5 and 7 engage teeth 6a on 6 to lock the joint. When the cam level is moved to unlock the joint, springs 11 force the hubs apart, and brake members 12 acting peripherally on the hubs 5,7 then prevent relative rotation of the joint members unless force is applied to the members 1, 2, 4. The brakes 12 may be in the form of springs and may have axial projections 13 engaging abutments 14 in the, hub 6. The teeth 5a, 6a, 7a may be of triangular section having their apices bevelled in both directions from the centre obliquely towards their bases. In another form the brakes are springs coiled into peripheral engagement with the hubs 5, 7.
