Abstract

554,698. Lamp holders. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., COCKE, K. J. R., and WOOD, C. W. Jan. 14, 1942, No. 552. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A lamp mounting comprises a tubular member formed of a channel-sectioned body 2 and a flanged cover plate 3 secured together by bolts 6 and spacers 7, the plate 3 being provided with aligned apertures around which are secured lamp-holders 5 and spouts 4 for supporting the reflectors. The lamp-holders 5 consist of hollow insulating members 13 having apertured securing flanges 9 and fitted with an Edison-screw insert 14 secured by plates 16 and bolts 17. The centre holder contact 18 is biased outwardly by a helical spring 19 and is engaged by a spring 20 secured to one of the lamp terminals 11. The spring 20 engages a groove 21 on the contact 18 when the lamp is removed and the correct position of the lamp on insertion in the holder is determined by the compression of the spring 19 until its convolutions contact. The other terminal 11 is attached to one of the bolts 17. The lamp terminals are connected in series or parallel to bus-bars 12 within the tubular member by screws inserted through holes in the body 2. The spouts 4 may be pressed out of the cover plate 2 or be attached by the bolts 8 securing the lamp-holders.
