Abstract
554,695. Resident joints. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and HICKMAN, J. C. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 478. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A resilient pivotal joint for connecting two members, such as a chassis 2 and an arm 4 carrying a vehicle wheel, comprises a resilient sleeve 1 bonded on one side to the shaft 3, on the arm 4 or to a metal sleeve 11 keyed to the shaft 3, and on the other side to a sleeve 7 adjustably connected to the chassis 2 by bolts 9 in arcuate slots in a flange 8 on the sleeve 7. Thus when the arm 4 is moved to working position, as by lowering the vehicle body towards the ground while the bolts 9 are loose, the shaft 3 and sleeves 11, 1, 7 rotate freely together so that, when the bolts are tightened, the sleeve 1 is free from pre-distortion.
