Abstract

554,652. Radial cylinder pumps. R. A. D., Ltd., and JONES, D. G. April 2, 1940, No. 5952. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A radial cylinder pump comprises cylinders 5 integral with parallel valve casings 6, 7 forming units radially inserted in openings in a polygonal part 1 of the casing ; the valves on each side are connected by corresponding conduits comprising tubes 53 telescoping into sockets 52 enabling them to be inserted in bosses 51 on the valve casings. The shaft is supported by ball bearings carried by an end plate 12 and a conical plate 16 bolted to a cylindrical extension 2 of the casing, an oil seal 21 being located in a boss on the plate 16. The shaft carries an eccentric 35 actuating the pistons 22 through a ball bearing, and cams 38 actuate the valves 25 through tappets 34, shims 47 being provided between the tappets and valves. The pistons 22 may be pressed into contact with the driving race by springs. The cylinders and valve casings may be constituted by the tubes brazed together. The Provisional Specification states that the pistons may be driven by connecting rods.
