554,579. Affixing adhesive strip. BARRY, J. E., and HARTMAN, I. April 8, 1942, No. 4602. [Class 73] A portable machine for affixing adhesive strip a to the covering of a parcel b comprises two damping wicks or pads c, d by which the strip and parcel are simultaneously damped. A reservoir e supplies the wicks with water. A feed roll h for the adhesive strip is turned by hand and is provided with a pawl and ratchet to prevent backward rotation. A pivoted rocking frame carries a transverse pressure member f for pressing the adhesive strip on to the upper wick and rollers u for pressing the strip on to the parcel. The frame is rocked by a pivoted handle n urged to normal position by a spring o and connected to the frame by a link s and levers. A knife k is depressed to sever the strip when desired.
