564,542. Strip serving machines. KRUEGER, T. H. July 24, 1942, No. 10401. Contention date, Aug. 19, 1941. [Class 18] A machine for serving gummed packaging tape or other strip from a roll 14 comprises feed rolls 30, 31 driven through gears 37, 39 from a handle 42, the lower roll 31 being mounted on a pivoted support 50 in such a way that a spring 56 and brake washer 57 provide frictional resistance to rotation of roll 31 so that initial movement of the upper roll 30 in strip-feeding direction causes the support 50 and roll 31 to rotate solid about pivot 52 till rolls 30, 31 contact when both rotate together.. The strip is fed over guides 16, 18 and beneath an eccentrically pivoted weight 26 which acts as a ratchet to prevent backward movement of the strip. A moistening brush 21 and cutter 24 are provided. Alternative methods of mounting the adjustable roller are described. The handle is spring-returned.
