Abstract

934,117. Feeding webs. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES. June 7, 1961 [June 9, 1960], No. 20472/61. Class 100 (1). A web 3 is fed from a spool 2 over a guide table 5 and looped over guide rollers 9 rotatably mounted in cantilever fashion on a fixed arm 8 and guide rollers 14 similarly mounted on an arm 13 centrally pivoted at the end of a rocking lever 11 as shown. The web is then fed by intermittently driven nip rollers 7 through knife blades 30 into a processing machine (not illustrated). The guide rollers are mounted in cantilever fashion so that they pass between each other allowing the rocking lever 11 to take the position shown in broken lines. When a spool 2 has emptied and the end of the web runs over a gap 5a in the table 5, a lever 23 drops down, releasing a pawl 25 thereby applying a spring-biased brake 27 to the web 3. The processing machine can continue to function, using the web stored in the loops between the guide rollers, whilst a second spool 2a has its web attached by an adhesive band to the end of the previous web. The rocking lever 11 drops under its own weight, the movement being damped by an hydraulic damping device 16, when the brake 27 is released. Brakes 20 operated by a cam means 22 at the pivot end of the lever 11, stop the spool from over spinning when the rocking lever 11 reaches the position A. The cam means 20 also operates a switch 18 when the rocking lever 11 reaches the position B, turning off the power supply to the processing machine being fed.
