Abstract
553,703. Pyrophoric lighters. LIST, B. H. F. March 28, 1941, No. 4191. [Class 75 (iii)] A petrol lighter comprises a cylindrical body A having a flint strip E secured in a groove in its external surface, a cap B threaded on the upper end of the body A and formed with an internally threaded member to receive a striker member, and a cap C threaded on its lower end. The body A is filled with absorbent material which is charged with petrol after removing the cap C. The striker member may consist of a boss G, a screwthreaded shank H; a split tube J, and a striking rod K wrapped with asbestos wick N and having a rounded end M. Ignition of the wick is effected by rubbing the end M over the flint E and the flame produced may be used to produce a larger flame on the top of the absorbent pad. The lower cap may be fitted with a swivelling attachment-ring D. The striking rod may be adjustable relatively to the tube J to compensate for wear.
