Abstract
580,829. Pocket lighters. ELLIS, A. E. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 19396. [Class 75 (iii)] In a pyrophoric lighter in which the tube for the flint and spring 23 runs in a horizontal direction at the top of the lighter and is in a portion 2 integral with the side wall, the. body is of plastic material and is provided with a metallic shield 15 on its upper surface. The preferably brass shield 15 may have a tongue 20 urged upwards by a spring pressed buffer 22 on to the base of a snuffer 6, to ensure complete opening and closing. The snuffer 6, which may have a lip or small corrugations to facilitate opening, fits in a recess between the portions 2 and 3, and over the portion 3 so that the top is smooth and approximately rectangular when the snuffer is closed. The abrasive wheel unit 8, 9 is held in place by a screw - threaded rod 10 which fits through a hole 12 into a hole 11, and the wick-holder 13 is a push fit in a hole 14. The lighter may be of transparent plastic and it may be made in two parts, a picture treated with cellulose varnish being applied on the internal face of one part.
