Abstract

553,631. Scaffold clamps. DETHERIDGE, H. T., and BILLINGTON, J. E. May 14, 1942, No. 6555. [Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A scaffold clamp of the kind in which a main body member is formed of sheet metal and is grooved in two directions and is provided with clamping caps to clamp scaffold members in the grooves, has the main body members fabricated from two curved members formed from sheet metal and welded together. Each curved member 1 is in the form of a semi-cylindrical sleeve with turned-over edge portions 12 to form eyes for the reception of the trunnions 14, 15 of a clamping cap 10 and a clamping bolt 11, respectively. Each sleeve is provided with a central aperture 5 formed by turning down edge flaps 4, the edges of which are so shaped as to fit over the arcuate surface of the coacting semisleeve with the axes of the sleeves disposed at the angle required for the scaffold members. The semi-sleeves are then welded together and tapering projections 9 disposed on either side of the central aperture of each semi-sieeve facilitate the positioning and the welding. The ends of the turned-over edge hinge portions are also welded to the body portions after the trunnions of the caps and bolts have been placed in position as described in Specification 553,288.
