Abstract

553,326. Resharpening files. LEYLAND, J. B. July 3, 1942, No. 9231. [Class 61 (ii)] Files are resharpened by a method consisting of immersing them, after preliminary degreasing and cleaning, in a bath of sulphuric acid or a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids, applying to them while suspended in the sharpening bath a voltage preferably positive of 2 to 20 volts, and removing any black carbon deposit by adding a powerful oxidizing agent to the bath after the action has well started or treating the files in a bath of the oxidizing agent after leaving the sharpening bath. The preliminary degreasing may be performed by immersion in a composition made up of sulphonated fatty alcohol, sulphuric acid, a toxic of size and water and the carbon depositpreventing oxidizing agent may be potassium permanganate, potassium or sodium bichromate or hydrogen peroxide; the files may be suspended in the baths by short lengths of thick rubber tubing threaded on hooked wires.
