Abstract
553,212. Sulphonation. FRASER & FRASER, Ltd., and PARTISCH, K. J. A. Nov. 19, 1941, No. 14897. [Class 2 (iii)] An aliphatic compound and a sulphonating agent, in the liquid condition and in a finely divided state are brought into reaction in a chamber through which a gaseous coolant is passed. The latter is preferably introduced tangentially, near the bottom of the chamber so that the cooling gases rise spiral wise. In Fig. 1, the aliphatic compound and sulphonating agent are introduced into the jacketted sulphonating chamber 1 through spray nozzles 5, 6 and air for cooling is introduced tangentially by means of a pipe 7. The liquid product is withdrawn at 2 and the baffle 8 forms a tortuous passage for the exit of the air and gases.
