932,559. Production of solid carbon dioxide. L. VAHL. Oct. 13, 1959 [Oct. 15, 1958], No. 34732/59. Class 8(2). Dry carbon dioxide ice is produced by passing a stream of carbon dioxide gas of a pressure between atmospheric and the triple point pressure up a vertical chamber 1 containing a finned surface 2, 15 cooled by liquid forced by a pump 5 through the cooler 6 of a refrigerating system, a duct 3, a return duct 4 and an exchanger 9 which when a predetermined amount of ice has been formed on the surface 2 and fins 15 serves to warm the circulating liquid and hence the surfaces 2, 5 sufficiently to allow the ice to fall away and be removed through a hinged base plate 14. During the ice removal period the passage of refrigerant through the cooler 6 is arrested. Uncondensed impurities of the carbon dioxide feed gas leave the chamber 1 through a top outlet 13.
