552,879. Partial esters. ATLAS POWDER CO. Dec. 21, 1940, No. 17985. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] Water dispersible partial esters are prepared from a hexitol or inner ether thereof and lauric acid, coconut oil or mixed fatty acids of coconut oil. Substances other than the partial esters are formed which serve to confer water dispersible properties on the hexitol-lauric acid ester. A composition of the kind stated may be obtained by reacting mannitol with lauric acid or mannitol with coconut oil in the presence of an alkaline catalyst e.g. Na OH or Na 2 CO 3 at 200‹-300‹C. Sorbitol is also mentioned.
