555,192. Glycerine esters. GEIGY AKT.- GES., J. R. Dec. 27, 1940, No. 18159. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] Esters of glycerine diethers are prepared by interaction of glycerine diethers containing a free hydroxy group and at least one unsaturated and (or) branched, and in some cases brominated, ether group, which in the case of an unsaturated ether group contains 3 carbon atoms, with a monobasic or polybasic acid or a halide or anhydride of such an acid. Examples are given of the preparation of 1-ethoxy-3- propenoxy-propanol-2 carbamic acid ester from 1 - propenoxy - 3 - ethoxypropanol - 2 and phosgene, 1:3 - di - isobutoxypropanol - 2 phosphoric acid ester from 1:3-di-isobutoxypropanol-2 and phosphorus oxychloride, 1-isobutoxy - 3 - propenoxy - propanol - 2 phosphoric acid ester, 1-isopropyloxy-3-propenoxypropanol-2 phosphoric acid ester, and 1-isopropyloxy - 3 - phenoxy - propanol - 2 phosphoric acid ester, the diether used being prepared from epiphenyline and isopropyl alcohol. Esters may also be prepared from allylphenyline, bromallyl-phenyline, dibromallylphenyline and other halogen derivatives. Acid esters may be converted into neutral esters by the action of organic or inorganic bases or metal salts. Specification 555,191 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not limited to the esterification of diethers or to unsaturated ether groups of only three carbon atoms and described the preparation of dibutoxypropanol adipic acid semi-ester, 1 - ethoxy - 3 - phenoxy - propanol - 2 ethyl carbonic acid ester, 1:3-dibutoxypropanol-2 diethylcarbamic acid ester, 1-ethoxy-3-phenoxypropanol-2 diethylamino-oxalic acid ester and 1-ethoxy-3-phenoxy-propanol-2 phosphoric acid ester. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
