Abstract

1282703 Salicil esters PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 5 Feb 1970 [8 Feb 1969] 5514/70 Heading C2C Novel salicil esters of the general formula wherein R 1 and R 4 are each a halogen atom and R 2 and R 3 are each a hydrogen atom or 1-3 halogen atoms substituted in the 4, 5 or 6- positions or 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP> or 61-positions and each R 5 is a hydroxyl group esterified with an inorganic acid or an organic acid having up to 8 carbon atoms, with the exception of the acetate, propionate and butyrate of 3,5,3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP>-tetrachlorosalicil, are prepared (a) by hydrolysis of a salicil ether of the general formula wherein R is an alkyl or alkoxymethyl group or (b) by halogenation of a salicil of the general formula wherein X and Y are each a hydrogen or halogen atom; followed by esterification of the resulting salicil of the first general formula above wherein each R 5 is a hydroxyl group. Antiparasitic compositions comprise, as active ingredient, a salicil ester of the first general formula above, and a solid or liquid excipient.
