538,717. Esters. SCHOU, H. Dec. 1, 1939, No. 31251. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group III] Mixed fatty acid esters of water-soluble organic polyhydroxy compounds contain a fatty acid radicle with less than 8 carbon atoms and also a fatty acid radicle with 8 or more carbon atoms. The esters may also contain unesterified hydroxyl groups. According to an example, polymerized glycerol is esterified first with acetic acid anhydride and then with stearic acid. Instead of polyglycerol, glycerol, mannitol, sorbitol &c. may be used.
