Abstract
552,346. Knitting. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Jan. 16, 1942, No. 651. Addition to 544,085. [Class 74 (ii)] In apparatus for running work on the needles of a straight-bar machine and as described in the parent Specification, the instruments D associated with the transfer points A are arranged to hold the fabric down on to the knocking- over bits L after the points have been disengaged from the needles. The ends D' of the instruments D are disposed substantially at right-angles to the needles H when holding the work down on the bits L and are of such depth as to allow the instruments to pass into the space between the sinkers M and the tops of the bits L when the needles and knock-over bits are returned to their normal knitting position. Stops for positioning the point bar with the points in engagement with the needles are provided upon the bracket F secured to the needle bar and supporting the spindle E about which the instrument bar and point bar are pivoted, and other stops N are provided upon the point bar for limiting the upward movement of the point bar. Springs may be provided for preventing unintentional movement of the instrument bar with respect to the point bar when the points are being applied to the needles.
