552,143. Adhesive compositions of sodium silicate and clay. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12110. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1940. [Class 121] An adhesive composition is made by adding china or ball clay to a solution of up to 2.5 per cent of deflocculent and agitating to form a fluid slip containing more clay than water and dispersing the slip in a concentrated sodium silicate solution with vigorous agitation at the point of introduction, at a temperature of 70 to 160‹C. The composition contains 5 to 12 per cent. of clay and 35 to 45 per cent. of total solids, the Si O 2 to Na 2 O ratio being 3.0 to 3.4. The adhesives, which are for use in corrugated or solid fibreboard manufacture have a yieldpoint of 25 to 150 dynes per sq. cm. mobility of. 0.3 to 4.0 rhes and a thixotropy ratio greater than 1.3.
