555,310. Adhesive compositions of sodium silicate and clay. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12111. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1940. [Class 121] An adhesive composition is made by mixing ball or china clay and sodium silicate in water at 115 to 162‹ C. and at 10 to 80 lbs. per sq. in. super-atmospheric pressure, e.g. in a rotary pressure-dissolver heated by direct steam. The product which is for use in corrugated fibreboard machines and may comprise 5 to 25 parts of clay and 41 to 56 of sodium silicate per 100 of water, may have a yield value of 25 to 150 dynes per sq. cm., a mobility of 0.3 to 3.5 rhes, and a thixotropy ratio of 1.1 to 1.4; its specific gravity is 35 to 45‹ Be. Starch, wetting agents &c. may also be included. Specification 526,462 is referred to.
