Abstract
551,544. Indicating faults. LONDEX, Ltd., BROWN, W. S. F., and STERN, W. Jan. 8, 1942, No. 306. [Class 37] Faults in a circuit 4 supplied by a transformer 5 are indicated by means of a pair of opposed rectifiers 2, 3 at opposite ends of the circuit and a D.C. relay coil 1 which is normally unenergized, but when a short-circuit 17 occurs, is energized by alternate halfwaves and closes contacts 8, 9 in the circuit of an indicator lamp 10 and bell 11. A further D.C. relay coil 12 in series with a rectifier 13 connected in the same sense as 3 is normally energized by alternate half-waves and holds open contacts 14, 15, but on open-circuiting of the circuit 4, contacts 14, 15 make the circuit of the bell 11 and a further lamp 16. If the circuit 4 has an earth-return, earth faults also will be indicated. Means may be provided for testing the relays, and automatic or manual means may be adapted to make a connection 17 and give an alarm. The invention may be combined with known means for locating the fault.
