Abstract
577,359. Protective arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 7, 1944, No. 334. Convention date, Jan. 9, 1943. [Class 38 (iv)] In a system for preventing electrolytic corrosion of underground pipes or cables by stray earth currents, wherein the body to be protected is connected at a suitable point by a low resistance conductor to the supply circuit from which the earth current originates, a rectifier is included in series with the conductor to block reverse currents which might otherwise cause corrosion. As shown, the body 21 is connected to one side of supply circuit 19 by a low resistance path including fuse 18, winding 10 of a normally open solenoid-switch 11 and rectifier 15. The last is short-circuited and protected against overload by automatic closure of the switch contacts, upon the occurrence of an abnormally heavy earth current.
