Abstract

551,200. Swivels. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and FORCEVILLE, E. A. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16201. [Class 24] A swivel is formed of two components 1, 2 of sheet metal drawn into hollow tubular form, one component having a dished flange 4, and the other being expanded at 10 and spun over to enclose the flange 4 and interposed ball bearings 14, preferably carried by races 15 of hard steel. The tubular parts of the components are slotted at 5, 11 to take eyes on the cables to be coupled, and have transverse holes 6, 12 for the connecting pins. Ingress of water is prevented by a wick 16 soaked in oil and retained by a cup 17 secured to the outside of the member 1, and also soft metal plugs 7, 13 forced against internal shoulders 3, 8 on the components 1, 2.
