Abstract

550,780. Aircraft shelters. HEAD, WRIGHTSON & CO., Ltd., WRIGHTSON, Sir T. G., and WALKER, F. J. July 18, 1941, No. 9131. [Class 20 (i)] A hangar is formed with a roof built up of lattice radial unit members detachably connected together and at their outer ends connected to a peripheral member, also of unit framework, which is supported at spaced intervals by uprights. The main radial units R are formed of upper and lower booms 3, 4 interconnected by lattice members 5, 6 welded thereto, and the units are detachably joined together in abutting relationship at their ends by bolts through the abutting bars 6 and by cover-plates 10. The main members abut towards the centre between flanges on a tubular member 12 and outwardly on to circumferential lattice members G formed as plate girders with webs and flanges 1 and 2 respectively, which are supported by spaced lattice uprights 18 disposed on supports 20. Subsidiary radial units S are disposed between the main units and abut on their inner ends on an inner ring 14 carried by the main radial members and the radial units are interconnected by purlins 16. The roof may be plated or thatched and the sides are formed of flexible covering material supported by guy ropes 22. The hangar may be painted to render it inconspicuous from the air.
