Abstract

636,555. Temporary buildings ; roofs. HILLFIELDS, Ltd., and CHURCHILL, H. W. S. May 7, 1947, No. 12334. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (iv)] A temporary building, e,g. a marquee or ridge type tent, comprises a roof covering 22, Fig. 1, supported by a skeleton framework composed of aligned masts 1 over each of which a pair of ropes 10 is draped with their ends anchored at 3, 3A, the ropes being inter-connected by purlins 17. The masts 1 are flanked by two rows of shorter posts 2, 2A over which the ropes are also draped and diagonal ropes 44 provide the building with cross bracing. The ropes 10 are secured to the tops of the masts 1 and posts 2, 2A by means of saddle clips 14, Fig. 5, bolted to capping plates 13 welded to the tops of the masts and posts, and the purlins 17 are clamped to the ropes 10 by means of bolts 18 and cradle plates 20. Strips of felt are hung over the purlins 17 and sheets 22 of corrugated metal &c. are secured by hook bolts 24 which also secure the ridge plating 23. Strutted gable end framings are provided and the sides of the building may be constituted by wall structures 45, Fig. 1, attached to the posts 2, 2A. In order to damp oscillation of the roof surface, the ropes 10 are attached as shown in Fig. 1, to oppositely directed ropes 42 which are pulled downwards by a vertical rope 43 fixed at a point near the base of the mast.
