Abstract

550,400. Laminated wood tubes. KREMER, H. July 3, 1941, No. 8429. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In manufacturing laminated wood tubes by the winding helically on a former a strip of wood sheeting or veneer so that the edges of successive convolutions are contiguous or overlapping and superposing on the strip a second helically coiled strip with its edges out of register with the edges of the first strip, the two being secured together by adhesive, the strips are, before winding, saturated with a synthetic resin adhesive which is thermosetting and the strips are bonded together by applying heat to fuse the resin. In the apparatus shown a hand-rotated former 5 carrying clamps 6, 7 and in contact with a number of pressure rollers 8 winds two strips 9 in the manner above described. Steam is admitted into the roller 5 to fuse the resin. More than two layers may be employed and these may be interleaved with metal and oil or resin-impregnated tissue paper.
