Abstract
549,852. Hydraulic brake pumps. ROVER CO., Ltd., and IVERSEN, P. A. SCOTT-, May 5, 1941, No. 5821. [Class 102 (i)] A hydraulic brake pump comprises a hollow body part a divided internally by a partition b to form a pump chamber c and a replenishing reservoir d, a plunger h slidable through the partition and extending through the reservoir, the inner end of the plunger being formed with a passage j, k for establishing communication between the reservoir and pump chamber, a non-return valve n mounted on the inner end of the.plunger and adapted by contact with an abutment in the body part to open the passage j, k when the plunger occupies its initial position, and a spring q for effecting return movement of the plunger. The pump is mounted in an inclined or vertical position with the reservoir d above the chamber c, and is operated by the driver by foot pressure on a pad i or on a lever connected to the plunger. The latter passes through a gland g in the partition b, and this gland, or the partition, may form the abutment for the valve n. The latter is in the form of a hollow cap with an inturned free edge which engages with axial play in a wider annular groove o in the plunger. The reservoir d may be filled through a side hole r, or it may be connected to a supply tank. The valve n is perforated at p and is a loose fit in the chamber c, and a dash-pot effect is obtained by arranging the outlet s adjacent the partition b. Alternatively, an extension on the plunger may serve as a dash-pot piston. The valve may have a resilient'sealing piece to bear against a seating m on the plunger, whilst in a modification the valve is movable laterally into engagement with the plunger.
