Abstract

549,569. Breaking; upsetting. GASPAR, E., and OMES, Ltd. Nov. 2, 1939, No. 29251. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Apparatus for breaking by tension or for upsetting electrically heated blanks is arranged to heat two blanks in series. Machines of existing types may readily be adapted to employ the means described. The vice electrodes 25, 26, Fig. 2, are electrically insulated at 27 and adjustably fixed to the bed at 16, the clamping means being insulated also. These electrodes are connected to the transformer terminals. The movable vice electrode 44 completes the circuit through the two blanks which in the example shown are to be pulled apart to form four projectiles 35a, 38a. The electrode 44 is operated by a hydraulic ram and carries at 43 a vertical ram for effecting clamping. A clamping ram for the fixed electrodes is mounted at 31 and is insulated from them. In a modification two separate machines 55, 65, Fig. 4, are arranged side by side and their electrodes are connected in series as shown. The electrode 44, Fig. 2, may be fitted with anvils when upsetting is to be performed. Specifications 511,295 and 574,931 are referred to. In addition the Provisional Specification refers to Specifications 465,103 and 514,728.
