Abstract
493,015. Coating welding-electrodes by extrusion. HOLDING INTERCITO SOC. ANON. Oct. 21, 1937, No. 28802. Convention date, April 9. [Class 87 (ii)] In order to produce electrodes for arc welding with a uniform and concentric coating, the wire cores 5<1> are guided to within a short distance of the nozzle of an extrusion machine by conical rollers 13. The rollers are slidable against the action of a spring in a casing 4 carried by a tubular member 3 passing through an aperture in the piston of the extrusion cylinder, and having an aperture for the passage of the wire or core 5. If the rollers encounter a thicker part of the core, they move against the action of the spring while continuing to centre the core. The core is advanced by milled rollers acting on opposite sides of the core and driven by variable gearing that may be adjusted independently of the drive for the extrusion piston. Two extrusion cylinders are used so that one may be in operation while the other is being filled with plastic coating material.
