Abstract
567,048. Welding wire fabrics. TAYLOR, B. July 20, 1943, No. 11802. [Class 83 (iv)] In an electric welding-machine having a series of movable electrodes 4 co-operating with a series of fixed electrodes 3, particularly for welding the inter-sections of the cross 2 and longitudinal wires 1 of a reticulated steel wire fabric, the movable electrodes 4 are operated by a toggle mechanism, the knuckle of which is operated by a, series of cams 12 carried on a wheel 13 driven in synchronism with the wire feed mechanism. The electrodes 4 are carried by spring-returned stems 7 moving in guides 5, 6 and connected to the lower links 8 of the toggles, the upper links 9 of which are jointed to an adjustable fixed abutment 10. The roller 11 of the toggle is engaged by the series of cones 12 on the wheel 13 which is driven by a shaft 23 and bevel wheels 14, 15 in synchronism with the mechanism for feeding the wires 1 through the machine. The wheel 13 carries electric contacts 16 which engage members in electric circuit with the movable electrodes to put in the welding current when the wires are engaged by the electrodes. The pressure is adjusted by an adjustable spring 19, contained in a fixed casing 20 and engaging a plunger 18 connected to the abutment 10.
