[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Breaking.-In a method of making tines for agricultural implements a length of square bar is heated at the centre between vice electrodes to raise the bar to forging temperature, and the ends of the bar are then drawn apart so forming two pointed tines. Preferably, the current is switched off before the workpiece is drawn apart. The machine has parallel guide bars 11 and 12 supported between end castings 13 and 21 on a bed-plate 14 and carrying a cross-bearer 24 which is capable of movement to any desired position on the guide bars 11 and 12 by the operation of a hydraulic ram 42. The end casting 13 and the cross-bearer 24 each carry one pair of vice jaws 27, 29 and 28, 30 respectively, shaped to receive the workpiece, the upper jaw of each set 29 and 30 being capable of vertical movement by means of hydraulic rams 31 and 32 respectively. The end casting 13, and hence the pair of vice jaws 27 and 29 it carries, is insulated from the rest of the machine. Flexible electric cables connect the vice jaws to the secondary terminals of a step-down transformer accommodated together with a hydraulic pump, control valves, &c. in the rear of the machine. An alternative form of construction has the vice jaws of each set fixed one behind the other and adjusted horizontally. Specifications 462,236, 465,103, 514,728 and 575,388 are referred to.
