Abstract
549,522. Pile fabrics. TAYLOR, W. I., and LEVERS, J. F. May 21, 1941, No. 6506. [Class 142 (iv)] [Also in Group IV] Fabrics having a crinkled pile of flat fibres of acetate or other derivative of cellulose are produced by weaving, or by sewing bundles of staple fibres on to a backing of woven cotton or regenerated cellulose or on to a sheet of cellulose; the backing may be impregnated with rubber latex. The crinkle is, produced by subsequent treatment in boiling water which may contain substances to increase or decrease the lustre or to slightly saponify the pile; the treatment may be applied locally to produce a pattern of crinkled and uncrinkled pile, or the fabric may be creased or embossed to pre-dispose the pile to crinkle in a pattern. The pile may be from one-eighth inch upwards in length; prolonged treatment of one-inch pile causes a granulated appearance simulating lamb's wool.
