Abstract

547,921. Forging billets, bars, &c. BROSIUS, E E. April 28, 1941, No. 5492. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1940. [Class 83 (iv)] A device for handling billets, bars, &c. while forging comprises a work-holder 9 carried by a support 11 which permits movement about a pivot 27 when subjected to shock. The holder has jaws 10 and is rotated by gearing 31 &c. in the support 11 which is carried by trunnions 15, 27, the former being movable vertically by bell-cranks 14 and hydraulic cylinder 17 pivoted at 16 on the chassis 2 of a travelling car, and the latter by a collar 26 on a piston rod 23 of hydraulic cylinder 22, pivoted at 21 on the chassis 2, the collar 26 being held between a rubber block 25 and a spring 30 which takes the shocks due to the blows of the forging hammer. The motors which drive the car 2 and the pump which supplies the cylinders 17, 22 &c. are supplied with current by means of a cable 8. A seat 4 is provided for the operator.
