Abstract

738,531. Vices. HERBERT, Ltd., E. G., JONES, J. O., and HITCHENS, T. H. June 15, 1954 [June 17, 1953], No. 16666/53. Class 61. A vice, such as one used in hacksawing machines, has grooves 22, 23 in the fixed and moving jaws 16, 17, these grooves being approximately at right-angles to the working faces and extending below the upper surface of the vice frame 13. By this means a work-piece clamped between the jaws can be completely severed by a tool, such as a hacksaw blade 30. The grooves may be fitted with hardened liners or rollers. In the construction shown each of the jaws has a downwardly-projecting locating block 18, 19, of inverted T-section which fits into a similarlyshaped track in the frame 13; the grooves 22, 23 extend into these blocks. The block 18 of the movable jaw 16 has a screw-threaded bore 25 to receive the adjusting-screw 26, the latter being protected by a sleeve 28, The frame is mounted on a base 10 which houses an electric or like motor for driving the working parts.
