Abstract

1,102,862. Tool-Changing. P. G. JONES. 2 June, 1965 [4 March, 1964], No. 9117/64. Headings B3B and B3T. A machine tool comprises a magazine 20, supporting tool blocks 28 for movement transverse to the chuck axis, and a reciprocable member 26 for picking up a tool block, the block being released from the magazine as the latter is advanced. The blocks carrying drills 30 &c. are carried around on a circular ball track 42 by means driven by a mechanical, electrical or fluid-pressure motor, the track having a tool-exchange gap which can be filled by a portion of track on the ram 26. The ram clamps the block at the exchange gap by means of claws 122, 132 and then feeds the tool to the work. The claws are actuated by rollers forced between inclined surfaces. In a modification, the blocks are carried in a linearly-movable magazine.
