Abstract
547,707. Telephone instruments. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and SUTTON, G. W. March 3, 1941, Nos. 2818 and 13103. [Class 40 (iv)] An armature for a telephone instrument of the balanced armature type comprises a plate 1, Fig. 1, of magnetic material having a number of slits 4 extending from one end to the middle of the length to form a number of limbs, one or more of which is secured at the free end while the other or others vibrate substantially about the middle transverse axis AA. As shown, the armature has two narrow side limbs 5 with end lugs 3 which are enclosed in a U-shaped brass liner 6, Fig. 3, and clamped between the pole-pieces 14, 14. The wide limb between the side limbs 5 together with the upper half of the plate 1 constitute the vibrating part of the armature. Holes 4a may be formed at the inner ends of the slits 4 to weaken the roots of the limbs 5 to help localise the axis of oscillation AA. In a modification, side slits extend from both ends towards each other, leaving a small bridge in the middle, the ends of the lower limbs are clamped between the pole-pieces 14, 14 as before, and the ends of the upper limbs are similarly clamped between the upper pole-pieces 15, 15. The magnetic system and the assembly of the parts of the telephone instruments may be as described in Specification 547,728.
