Abstract

208,330. Schmidt, L. Nov. 7, 1922. Magnetic instruments.- The armature of a magnetic telephone instrument moves about a fulcrum within the bore of the coil. The armature, Fig. 5, consists of two cylindrical parts 17, 18 having tapered portions 19, of which one has a threaded stud 20 which screws into the other. Split sleeves 22, having ring portions 24 which receive the stud 20, fit tightly into the bore of the coil 14, Fig. 2, and the portions 24 form the pivot for the armature. Pole-pieces 6, 7 are secured to the limbs of a horse-shoe magnet 5, and pole-shoes 11, 12 project inwardly therefrom. The inner faces of the pole-shoes are concave and eccentric with respect to the armature. A rod 29 extends loosely through an opening 2 in the end of the armature with its head resting in the groove 28, Fig. 5, and is attached to a mica diaphragm 31, Fig. 2. This ensures that the rod is always perpendicular to the diaphragm. A split sleeve 30<1> fits over the reduced end of the armature so as to ensure a pivoted action of the rod 29. The instrument may be used either as a transmitter or receiver.
