210,737. Radiotive Corporation, (Assignees of Schmidt, L.). Jan. 31, 1923, [Convention date]. Magnetic instruments; diaphragms, materials for. The tubular armature 18 of a telephone instrument or transmitter extends through the bore of a coil 14, and a vibratory support therefcr is arranged coaxially with the bore of the coil, is fixed at one end to the armature and at the other end to a fixed support, and its fulcrum is located exactly in the line of its axis and at a point midway between its ends. The permanent magnet 5, Fig. 2, may be of horse-shoe form with pole pieces. which are formed with flanges 9, 10. Each flange is provided with angularly disposed shoes 11, 12, which embrace a cylindrical spool 13 on which the coil 14 is wound. The support for the tubular armature 18 is a rod 17, preferably of phosphor bronze, which has a tight frictional grip in a reduced end of the bore of the armature and is fixed to a support 26 at the other end. This rod 17 is reduced in diameter at 25 so that this portion is on the axis of the armature and midway between its ends and acts as a fulcrum about which the armature and its supporting roct vibrate. The supporting rod 17 is connected to the diaphragm 30, which is preferably of celluloid, by a rod 28. Another form of supporting rod is shown in Fig. 6. Specification 208,330 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes a rod of uniform cross section throughout as the support for the armature. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
