Abstract
547,243. Guiding pump rods. LE GRAND, SUTCLIFF & GELL., Ltd., & DAVYS, G. G. April 1, 1941. No. 4367. [Class 85] Means for guiding sucker rods used in pumping oil wells &c. comprises a cylindrical part forming the guide proper and detachably connected to a guide rod which extends through the cylindrical part and is connected to the sucker rods. A cylinder a of steel, alloy, &c., is detachably connected, as by welds d, studs or shear pins, to the central flattened portion b<SP>1</SP> of the guide rod b, and is adapted for sliding engagement with the well casing, its end edges a<SP>1</SP> being rounded and acting as scrapers to remove solid substances, such as paraffin wax, from the interior of the casing. The sides b<SP>1</SP> of the part b<SP>2</SP> may be plain, convex or concave. The edges of the part b<SP>1</SP> may be spaced from the inner surface of the cylinder a which may then be connected to the rod only at one or more points intermediate its ends. In other forms, the rod is of star-shaped cross-section formed as by providing a central cylindrical rod with three, four or more radial webs.
