Abstract
591,922. Sinking wells. ALLARD, P. J. M. T. May 1, 1945, No. 11025. Convention date, June 2, 1942. [Class 85] Wells are sunk by oscillating the well tubes T through less than 180 degrees by means of a lever 25 pivoted at 27 to a hinged clamp 28 on the tubes to facilitate descent of the latter. The lever may have a slot engaged by a roller carried by a nut on a screw 1 which is reversably driven by means of open and crossed belts 31, 31<1>, and a clutch which is automatically reversed at the end of each oscillation. In another form, the screw is continuously driven and has opposed helical threads merging at the ends, the nut having a, pivoted member engaging the threads. In a further form, the roller engaging the' slot is reciprocated by a hydraulic, pneumatic or steam cylinder, while in Fig. 7 the lever is reciprocated by cables 45, 47, the ends of which are oppositely wound round a reversible winch 46.
