Abstract

665,775. Grab-buckets. JUPP, A. W., and STOW & CO., Ltd., G. Sept. 27, 1949. [June 17, 1949] No. 16207/49. Class 78 (iv). The jaws of a single rope grab with an elongated body are closed by a connecting rod operated by a crank of small throw carried by a pulley round which the rope passes, and are opened by a spring which acts through the connecting rod. As shown in Fig. 1, the jaws 2 of a grab are closed by upward movement of a member 15 carried by a sliding rod 14 operated by a crank 11 on a pulley wheel 6 through a connecting rod 12. The pulley wheel 6 is operated by a hoisting rope 3 connected at one end to a compression spring 9 in a tube 7 and passing at the other end through the grab-head 4. A slot 17 in the grab body limits the movement of the crank 11. The grab is controlled by means which co-operate with a fixed crown as described in Specification 665,909.
