Abstract

[Also in Groups XXV, XXVI and XXXIV] The piston 62 of a door check bears against the end of the piston rod 64 and is connected to it by a spring 66 to allow for possible misalignment. The piston has a circumferential groove 82 communicating with its interior, and the cylinder has a similar groove 81 connected to both ends of the cylinder through separate regulating valves, so that during the first part of the inward movement of the piston only the outer valve is effective, after the head of the piston covers the groove 81 both valves are in series to slow down the motion, and after the groove 82 has come into co-operation with the groove 81 only the inner valve is effective, giving a quicker final movement. The two regulating valves and a one-way valve connecting the ends of the cylinder to allow free outward movement of the piston are arranged in line at the end of the cylinder, as at 79.
