:This invention relates to cross heads primarily adapted for use upon cylindrical types of guides bars.
Another object of the invention comprehends gib members adapted to accommodate the cross head upon the guide bars and capable of being removed for replacement incident to wear.
A further object of the invention conteniplates means for suitably anchoring the aforementioned type of guide bars upon its work.
More specifically stated the cross head is adapted for central connection with pitmen and piston rods within the body portion thereof whereby thestroke of the cross head will be consequently more effectively balanced for more effective operation.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinaftermore fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference characfer-s10 indicate tubular cross bars adapted to receive threaded shanks 11 carried upon attaching ears 12 which are in turn connected with ears 13 carried upon an appropriate portion of a. cylinder housing 14;. In Figure 7 of the drawings, we have illustrated the type of guide bar employed for use upon the cross head. It has been tested and discovered that the particular type of.
guide bar has eight times the strength of the Hat guidebar. The round solid bar as illusftrated in Figure 8 of the drawings has twice 'lhe strength of the flat guide bar and the semi-circular har has about the same strength of the flat bars.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right herecompanion plates rigidly connecting supporting plates: at the extremities thereof, said supporting plates being provided with semicircular gouged and toothed portions upon the outer surfaces thereof, gibs conforming to the configuration of the gouged portions and adjacent faces of the guide bars, said ribs being adapted for toothed connection with the gouged portions of the supporting plates.
