The fire may be revived at any time by raising one or both lids b, c about pivots n, o. The frame a comprises a front d, sides c, f and triangular back pieces g, h. The frame may be formed with sides adjustable according to the use of the grate. Alternatively as shown in Fig. 5, box-like hoods a, w normally housed in recesses y at the sides of the fireplace may be turned down over the fire. In another construction lids are hinged to the sides of the grate.
