[Class 34 (i)] Apparatus for drying the compressed air supply for extinguishing the electric arc formed upon separation of electric switch contacts and for other purposes comprises a chamber 19 containing hygroscopic material and attached to or inserted in a storage vessel 16 in the system, the chamber being provided with an electric heating coil 39 for reactivating the material and with a valve 68 for the discharge of moisture outside the system during the heating operation. The supply of current to the heating coil and to a solenoid 71 operating the valve 68 may be controlled by a switch 70 operated by a moisture sensitive element 69 in the storage vessel or in the path of the air supply.
