Class 8(1) In a vacuum control system having a motor feed circuit operating a pump-driving motor, the pump 2 evacuating an element or equipment 1 through an isolating valve 3, the path between the pump and the isolating valve being associated with an air admittance valve 4, a relay 10 connected to the motor feed circuit so as to operate with the motor includes first contact means 5, 6 adapted to operate the air admittance valve 4 to close the latter and a second set of contacts 8, 9 adapted to operate a further relay 12 having contacts 13 adapted to open the isolating valve 3 When the vacuum pump 2 is switched on the relay 10 is energized closing contacts 5, 6, 8 and 9, the contacts 5, 6 completing a circuit to a rectifier 7 for energizing a coil 11 so that valve 4 closes. The condenser C1 shunting coil 11 charges, and the condenser C2 shunting relay 12 is charged through the resistance R1 so that after a delay the latter relay operates to close contacts 13 to complete the circuit to the operating coil 14 to open the valve 3. When the pump is switched off or the mains supply fails the relay 10 is de-energized, contacts 5, 6, 8 and 9 open, the operating circuit for the isolating valve is broken and valve 3 closes, the valve 4 being held closed while the condenser C1 discharges into the coil 11 thus giving a delay between the closing of the isolating valve 3 and the opening of the air admittance valve 4.
