[Class 112) [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIV] A hollow vertical hook shaft 45 has an internal helical groove 86 and surrounds a smooth non- rotating rod 85. Rotation of the shaft lifts oil from a reservoir 75 which passes through a porous plug 92 and a duct 91 to the hook race. The reservoir is replenished by hand through a passage 93. In a modification, the bore of the shaft is smooth and the rod 85 is cut with a helical groove. The arrangement is shown applied to a two-needle machine having separately adjustable hook-shaft supporting brackets.
