Abstract

546,777. Thermal switches. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., TAYLOR. J. R., and WRIGHT, S. R. June 18. 1941, No. 7701. [Class 38 (v)] In a timing device wherein closure of a switch 1 is followed after a given time interval by the closure of a circuit 2, closure of the switch 1 completes the circuit to the heater 4 of a thermal element such as a bimetal strip 3 which thereupon bends till it engages a contact 5 completing the circuit to a relay w which closes maintaining contacts c<SP>2</SP> and other contacts c' and opens contacts c<SP>3</SP>. The circuit of the heater 4 is thus broken, the bimetal strip 3 cools and eventually re-engages a contact 6 to complete the circuit 2. The time interval is thus the time during which the bimetal strip heats up and then cools down. The contact 5 may be an eccentrically-mounted disc and the load 2 may be a relay which can operate to close a maintaining circuit for 'itself and can open or close other circuits to control other operations. The arrangement may be used to start or stop a motor after a given time.
