Abstract

546,745. Universal joints. DENNIS BROS., Ltd., SIMPSON, J., and LUCY, B. Jan. 27, 1941, No. 1031. [Class 80 (ii)] In a constant-velocity universal joint a pair of blocks 27 are articulated to each shaft end and engage parallel-sided slots 26 in an intermediate member 22 of dumbbell-like shape. Part spherical portions 20 of the shaft ends engage cylindrical portions 2,1 of the member 22. The blocks may be of barrel shape, as shown, or of cylindrical or of rectangular form, and they may be mounted on roller bearings 29 on pins carried by the ends of the shafts. The joint may have a casing comprising spherical parts 13, 14, connected together by king-pins 16.
