Abstract
546,088. Treating solids in gases. BAR, P. J. Dec. 24. 1940, Nos. 18080/40, 2964/41 and 2965/41. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Groups XII and XIII] The heat treatment of solids in a current of gas or vapour for drying, calcining, heating, cooling, crystallizing, cabonizing, or chemical reaction is effected by circulating the gas containing the suspended solid in a closed cycle, continuously adding solid and gas to the circuit, and continuously withdrawing a portion of the suspension. The gas may be forced into the circuit by a fan 8 through an aperture 3 which acts as an injector to maintain the circulation. Solid is admitted from the hopper 6. The exit is preferably arranged at 4 on the inside of a curve so that the larger solid particles escape it the suspension withdrawn contains less solid than that in the circuit. Alternatively the solid may be partly separated in a device 33 (Fig. 4) and returned to the circuit by a conduit 34 byepassing the portion in which the exit 30 is situated. A disintegrator may be inserted in the circuit.
